Sunday –
The schedule for today was a 5-mile run, and it turned out to be totally fun for me. Let me tell you why…
My husband does this thing with birthday miles—he runs as many miles as his age. His birthday was in March, but he was injured and wanted to get checked out before pushing a long run. The VA is super slow, so it took months to finally get seen.
The doctor gave him the okay to run, so he was out at 2:00 a.m. and already had 15 miles in when I joined him for my 5. It was crazy humid and hot, so he was moving pretty slow. I made it my goal to pace him through a run/walk of 5 miles, hoping to give him a boost. These runs are the only time I’m faster than him, lol.
I sent him good vibes throughout our time together. I did three 8-min runs with 2-min walks, then one 7-min run with a 3-min walk. After that, I just ran until I hit my 5-mile mark. He still had 13 more miles to go! I know this blog isn’t about him, but it gives you a snapshot of what I’m around all the time. Plus, I love the support I get from him. We’re there for each other’s goals, and it really makes a difference.
Monday –
Gym Day! I absolutely love Monday’s coach—she’s awesome. Her guidance always helps me, and I feel like I learn and accomplish something after each class. Today started out hard, and by the end I was cooked.
Tuesday –
5:00 a.m. walk with my husband this morning. It was really nice to chat and catch up on things. These times are so special—we just talk about anything and everything.
Wednesday –
It’s my birthday! 🎉 I set up a massage and facial for a relaxing spa day, and my husband met me for lunch. That was super nice—we enjoyed an organic meal at one of our local spots. That evening, we both went to run club because ending my birthday with a run just sounded perfect.
We had recently added run/walk settings to my watch for long runs, so I got to test out how they worked. Loved it! The tools are amazing. I ran for 30 minutes, which I’m not disappointed with, and it was great being around people. My pace was 13:03—not bad for me, especially in the heat and afternoon.
Thursday –
Rest Day
Friday –
Gym Day! It was a really great workout. The coach helped me modify a few things for my shoulder. I’ve had on-and-off issues with it for years—part of it is my job since it gets used a lot. It had been feeling really good, so I added too much weight. (I’ve never actually gone to a doctor for it, though.)
Anyway, the workout was solid. I struggled through some parts because there was a lot to do, but I didn’t cheat—I did everything that was asked. And I feel stronger now.
Saturday –
This morning, I got up and walked around the neighborhood before it got too hot. Honestly, I thought I would see more people out—it was a beautiful morning. But I only came across one dog walker and two other walkers.
Thoughts –
I added up all the miles I’ve put into this training since I started. Before tomorrow’s run, I’ve logged 191.58 miles. I’m about halfway through, and I feel so accomplished.I freaking did that!!!
